Our Safety Protocols

At TJS, we recognize the importance of the service we provide.

How we conduct our business depends greatly upon keeping our equipment in excellent condition, adhering to strict safety and sanitation protocols, and practicing the utmost in driving safety and courtesy.

Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance

TJS maintains strict adherence to its Equipment Safety and Maintenance protocols, and conducts regular compliance audits and inspections.

It is the policy of TJS Leasing & Holding Company, Inc., that daily inspection of all equipment shall be completed in compliance with current Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Out of Service Criteria.

The purpose of this policy is to identify critical vehicle inspection items and provide criteria for placing vehicles out-of-service subsequent to safety inspection.

Authorized personnel declare and mark "out-of-service" any motor vehicle which by reason of its mechanical condition or loading would be likely to cause an accident or breakdown. An "Out-of-Service Vehicle" sticker is used to mark vehicles "out-of-service". TJS does not require, nor does TJS permit, any person to operate any commercial motor vehicle declared and marked "out-of-service" until all repairs required by the "out-of-service notice" have been satisfactorily completed.

Milk Tank and Sampling Equipment Inspection and Maintenance

Each and every TJS milk tank truck/trailer goes through a rigorous internal inspection prior to and post every dispatch. Our tank trucks/trailers are also inspected at least once each year by an authorized Regulatory Agency. A copy of the current inspection report accompanies each milk tank truck at all times, or a label located near the tank outlet valve on each TJS tanker trailer will be affixed, of which identifies the Regulatory Agency with the month and year of inspection.

The following equipment and item inspections are conducted:
  • Milk Samples and Sampling Equipment
  • Product Temperature Maintained at 7° C (45°F) or Less
  • Equipment Construction, Cleaning, Sanitizing and Repair
  • Exterior Condition of Tank
  • Wash and Sanitize Record
  • Location of Last Cleaning/Sanitizing
  • Labeling
  • Vehicle and Milk Tank Truck Proper Identification
  • Previous Inspection Sheet or Affixed Label Present
  • Sample Chain-of-Custody Documentation

Emergency Recovery Program

TJS has in place a complete recovery program with trained personnel and equipment to efficiently and quickly respond to product spillage due to overturned food-grade tank trucks. The food industry guidelines requires that all carriers have resources, either in-house or contractual, to respond to a product spill.

We make every effort to ensure the safety and sanitation of the food-grade commodities we transport for our customers. In addition to numerous other safety protocols we have implemented, all TJS tanker trailers are equipped with seal tabs and seals designed to secure valves and lids.

Our job is to ensure that the product we pick up and SAFELY deliver is of the highest quality, is sanitary, free from contaminants, and is maintained at the proper temperature.

As TJS is a bulk milk transport company and a transporter of liquid food-grade and beverage products, we adhere to extremely strict bulk milk and bulk edible food-grade liquid weighing, sampling, hauling, and handling procedures. Our procedures for sampling and the care of samples are in compliance with the American Public Health Association's current edition of Standards Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products (SMEDP).

Safety is a core value at TJS, and this philosophy is supported throughout the company in everything we do. Management at TJS has established and continually supports the fact that “Safety is Everyone’s Job – All the Time!"
